What is the Hongkong Prize?

The Hongkong prize is a scholarship contest that rewards students who excel at their studies. It is one of Asia’s most competitive awards ceremonies that celebrates the achievements and talents of thousands of applicants yearly. It also gives them the chance to pursue their passions and expand their global perspectives.

Winners receive shopping vouchers and F&B benefits. The winners of the top three will also win a cash prize. The winning team will also be given a chance to present their ideas to key stakeholders in the development sector. The competition is open to Southeast Asian residents, mainland Chinese citizens and international students.

Past winners have included journalists who expose human rights abuses and activists fighting for democracy in their countries, as well as community service workers and social justice advocates empowering marginalized communities. The award is independent and merit-based, with an expert panel free from sponsorship and personal interests. The HK Prize has helped many young people to realize their full potential and contribute to society.

Interested researchers must submit an original article published in a peer-reviewed journal by the deadline of 31 August 2024. Submissions must be either clinical studies (including prospective or retrospective clinical trials), observational/epidemiological/basic science investigations, and must focus on Hong Kong or Asia specifically. Letters to the editor and reviews are not eligible for submission.

The HK Prize is sponsored by Generocity and supported by a grant from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (Hong Kong SAR). The purpose of the HK Prize is to gather innovative ideas on establishing an Official Development Assistance program in Hong Kong, with a view to promoting sustainable development in Asia.

Aside from a financial reward, the winners of the Hongkong Prize will receive both recognition and access to top research facilities in the city. They will also be able to showcase their work at an international forum and make a positive impact on the lives of individuals and families around the world.

The prize is worth a total of HK$5 million, with the first-place winner receiving HK$2.5 million, the second-place winner getting HK$1.5 million, and the third-place winner getting HK$750,000. Additionally, those finishing fourth to eighth will receive an equal share of the award money. The prizes will be awarded at a ceremony to be held in late October. The finalists are expected to attend the ceremony in person or via video conference. The winner will also be invited to speak at a public lecture on the topic of his or her prize-winning work. The winner will also be able to use the prize fund to support his or her research. The rest of the prize funds will be used for the promotion and administration of the HK Prize. The judging process will be carried out by an academic and non-academic panel of experts. The panel will select a winner based on the quality of the research and its significance to society. The winners will be notified in late October.
